Friday Oct 7 - Left Durham around 3:30pm heading for Jefferson National Park in Virginia. Arrived around 7pm and set up camp. Ate the spaghetti I packed for dinner. I read some of "The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane" aloud to Bradley in the tent.
Saturday Oct 8 - Woke up to a very chilly morning. Hit the road around 9am and despite a few setbacks related to tolls, we arrived in Hermitage around 4pm. Ate soup that Grandma made, which was delicious. Uncle Stan stopped by while we were sitting outside.
Sunday Oct 9 - Went to see my McConnell grandparents and Dad. Everyone seemed to be well. Bradley got to see the McConnell farm and the old barn. He was impressed with the woodshop. After returning home Donna, Gary, and Aunt Rose came over to hang out with us on the porch.
Monday Oct 10 - Got to see Aunt Carol and Maggie in the morning! Went to Daffins and got chocolate (turtles, peanut butter melt-a-ways, chocolate covered pretzels), went to Kraynak's and saw the Christmas Land (and bought a Trees of North America puzzle), ate sandwiches in Buhl Park, and had chicken pot pie with Uncle Gary.
Tuesday Oct 11 - Left Hermitage around 9am, spontaneously stopping at the Pittsburgh Ikea to get cheap cutlery, a second recycling container, and most importantly, CHAIRS for our dining room table. The whole drive was gorgeous, trees were changing by the minute. Bradley said it looked like the woods were on fire. Stopped again when Bradley saw signs for a bridge overlook at the New River Bridge in West Virginia. It was gorgeous! We took a ton of photos of that. Finally made it back to Durham around 7:30pm.
